Our story
Our family-run wine-and-tourism estate Kralj sits in Škocjan near Koper, just over three kilometres from the city centre.
The first vineyard — half a hectare — was planted in 1978, when grandfather first put refošk into the ground. In 2009, father Branko planted a thousand malvazija vines, and that planting awakened the love of winegrowing in his son Matej.
Today we farm five hectares and produce two lines of malvazija, three of refošk, a cabernet sauvignon, a rosé, a yellow muscat and two charmat-method sparkling wines.
The wine
The focus is on fresh wines, with an increasing share also aged in barrel. Our wines carry the character of Istria, its sun, and the effort of the Kralj family.
The vines
Our vineyards are planted mostly to malvazija and refošk, with some cabernet sauvignon and yellow muscat — varieties that give our wines their distinctive Istrian aroma and elegance.
Where we are
The Kralj homestead stands in Škocjan, in the heart of the Istrian countryside. Location, tradition and family belonging — these are what give our wines their soul.
